Major technical achievements, WATAN Restores Path to Potable Water in Raju

In a significant step toward resolving the ongoing water shortages in Raju, Watan’s Water and Sanitation team made major technical progress last August as part of the project to rehabilitate water stations serving Raju and surrounding villages. Work is underway to improve the Masko water station, the Qara Baba water station, and the water reservoir in the village of Hajj Khalil. The initiative was supported by Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) and aims to restore access to clean, safe drinking water for approximately 25,000 people affected by the February 6 earthquake.

Key developments in August

• Hajj Khalil Village: The team continued rehabilitating the village’s water tank, installing and maintaining pumping and distribution lines, reinforcing the elevated tank for continuous service. New valves were also installed and tank connections replaced to ensure a smooth and safe flow of water.

• Masko and Qara Baba Pumping Stations: Major technical upgrades were completed at the two pumping stations, including lowering the pumping hall floors to enhance the performance and efficiency of the horizontal pumps. This was an essential improvement to ensure a steady and reliable water supply to residents.

These milestones mark significant progress toward the project’s ultimate goal: restoring sustainable access to potable water and easing the daily hardship of securing it. This effort are an integral part of Watan’s continued commitment to strengthening community resilience and improving living conditions across northern Syria.
